Breaking Boundaries: Call to LI Artists
Seeking artists in all 2D media including painting, drawing, collage, and photography. No entry fee, up to 2 pieces per artist

Boundaries can either hold one back, or create an opportunity to rise above the challenge. They can exist as physical, mental or emotional barriers. The Whaling Museum & Education Center is looking for artists to take an inventive approach in their interpretation of this subject for a year-long exhibition beginning in September of 2017.
“Breaking Boundaries,” funded in part by Humanities NY, is an innovative cultural arts project that explores the profound ways the local whaling industry broke key social, technological, racial, scientific, and economic boundaries of the 19th century.
From equal work opportunities for diverse racial groups, to expanding geographical knowledge by exploring new oceans, to women opening doors by joining life at sea, this exhibit will celebrate our pioneering and inventive cultural heritage, and will serve as a source of historical reflection, cultural inspiration, and artistic expression.
