Caitlyn Shea: Embodiment

Art Exhibit and Artists Reception

“ Caitlyn Shea: Embodiment”

The Alfred Van Loen Gallery is excited to present a solo exhibition by painter Caitlyn Shea. Her paintings explore both figurative and abstract representations of animals and humans while working aggressively with a colorful palette and imaginatively with her materials.

Shea says “My paintings conjure ideas of sublimity and the strong sense of both joy and macabre that comes from observing large, boundless forms”. Shea responds to a stimulus of the animal form creating a rousing energy in her paintings. She lets the medium dictate the flow while keeping basic components of the figure. Shea explores the relationships of Spray paint, Acrylic paint, and charcoal, manipulating the medium by taping, brushing and wiping until the work dictates a sense of inevitability. Shea takes risks, and is guided by her instinct producing work that speaks about painting. Strong influences of Willem De Kooning and Francis Bacon is reflected in this series.
