Centerport Condo Complex Collapses From Relentless Blaze

It took firefighters several hours to extinguish the blaze Tuesday morning due to the nor'easter conditions, fire officials say.

The nor'easter's strong winds forced firefighters to spend several hours battling a relentless blaze at a Centerport condo complex Tuesday morning.

According to fire officials, about 100 Centerport firefighters responded to a fire in the Bull Calf Landing Townhouse Complex, located on Bull Calf Lane, at 1 a.m. to discover the blaze, courtesy of the wind, had spread to several townhouse units, which severely hampered firefighters efforts.

About 20 residents were safely evacuated from the buildings that later collapsed. No injuries were reported. Shelter was provided for some of the displaced residents at the Centerport firehouse.
