HUNTINGTON, NY — Chloe and Clyde, two kittens rescued from a bad living situation in May, are the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter's Huntington Pets of the Week.

They were rescued, along with their mom and two other siblings, said Debbi Larkin, president of the shelter. The five felines were found living under a shed in Islip with the mom struggling to find food for her babies to supplement her nursing them.

After they were rescued, the cats were immediately brought to the shelter so a veterinarian could check them. The kittens were just over a month old and malnourished, according to Larkin.

The shelter kept the mother, Crystal, and placed the four kittens in a foster home.

"Volunteers at the shelter who kept asking us 'When is it our turn to foster some babies?' They were ready, willing and able," Larkin said. "So, we gave them the kittens. Unfortunately, 2 of them were not growing as fast as the others and they started to fade. The foster parents tried everything to get them to flourish but nothing worked and they passed over the rainbow bridge."

While Chloe and Clyde lost their siblings, they were kept under the constant watch of their foster parents. They gained weight and strength and turned into the "most loving kittens," Larkin said.

"Not only to one another but to the foster mom and dad," she said.

Chloe is a small gray tabby, approximately 3 months old with grey eyes and beautiful white markings on her face and chest and adorable white stockings on all four paws.

"She moves around her room and jumps up on everything in sight so fast, it is daunting and almost impossible to photograph," Larkin said. "And she loves to play ball with anyone who
will throw it to her, and she brings it back just like a dog She only slows down for Clyde!"

Clyde is the smaller black and white kitten, approximately 3 months old, who is so smushy and cuddly, according to Larkin. He loves to play and is always pestering his sibling, Chloe, but if someone goes into their room to check on them, he is the first to run to that person and beg to be picked up for some love.

Both Chloe and Clyde have been totally vetted, tested negative for FELV and FIV, litter box trained and will be spayed or neutered on Wednesday and will be back in the shelter by Friday and ready for adoption, Larkin said.

"Although we are not requiring that you adopt both, it would be nice to see them go to their forever home together," she said. "They are so bonded and we would hate to see that connection broken, especially after losing two of their siblings and being taken away from their mom."

If you are interested in meeting Chloe and/or Clyde, you may call the shelter at 631-757-4517, email cats@laphuntington.org, visit the Facebook page or visit at the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter.

The rescue is at 3 Verleye Ave., East Northport, and visiting hours are Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.

"Chloe and Clyde will both be anxiously waiting to meet you at our Kitten Adoption Day on July 18 from 7 to 9 p.m.," Larkin said. "We will also have lots of other kittens ready to go home. But if you can’t wait until that day, come in sooner and fall in love."
