Dog of the Week, Connecting Dock to Halesite, Thimble Theater Replacement

Here's what the Huntington Town Board approved at their most recent meeting.

The Town of Huntington held a board meeting Tuesday night. Here’s what the Board approved.

  • The Town Animal Shelter will hold a “Dog of the Week” program where one dog each will have their $80 adoption fee waived.
  • The Town will construct three floating docks to connect the Town Dock to Halesite. Up to $15,500 from the Neighborhood Enhancements Fund will be appropriated to purchase aluminum gangway and materials for the project.
  • The deadline for acting on an application of a rezoning that would allow for construction of a hotel, located on the west side of Broadhollow Road south of the Long Island Expressway in Melville, was extended until April 16.
  • A replacement for the Thimble Theater, the portable stage used by the Town and nonprofit groups for events, will be replaced. The Town approved spending up to $100,000 from the Parks and Recreation Capital Improvements Reserve Fund. The current stage has outlived its useful life span and cannot be repaired.
  • A public hearing will be held Feb. 10 to propose the updating of the Town’s Marine Conservation Law. This proposal would update and streamline the approval process for dredging and deposition of material and construction/reconstruction of marine structures, establishing engineering standards for marine students and establishing a separate permit for emergency maintenance/storm damage.
  • Another public hearing will be held Feb. 10 on an amendment to the Town Code that would allow the Board of Zoning Appeals to grant parking variances for restaurants and other service businesses that reside in industrial building in industrial zoning districts. These businesses cannot currently get parking variances. The change would allow the ZBA to consider such conditions as whether the businesses have different hours of operation than the offices or industrial companies.
  • Smaller Huntington Eateries to Serve Alcohol Thanks to New Town Code Change
