Maxine Jurow's exhibit, Images of Color, runs from October 6 through November 11 in the Library's Main Art Gallery.
Maxine holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), and a Masters in Painting and Education (MA). Her experiences as executive director of Literacy Suffolk for twenty years and art teacher for ten years have enriched and inspired her art. In the 70s and 80s, Maxine exhibited at Central
Hall Gallery in Port Washington, the Pleiades Gallery in Soho, NYC, with a solo show at the Heckscher Museum of Art. Since returning to art full time in 2008, she’s had shows at the Art League of Long Island, the Huntington Arts Council, among others.
Her art - in acrylic on paper, canvas, wood and Mylar – explores abstraction based in landscape, and often includes a low horizon line. Her influences include Mark Rothko, Richard Diebenkorn, Turner, and Monet. Personal travel, including trips to the U.S. Southwest, Greek Islands, Morocco, Mexico, and Australia, have informed her use of form and color palette.
