Town 9/11 Memorial Service at Heckscher Park

There will be a town-sponsored memorial service at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the 9/11 Memorial in Heckscher Park, at the corner of Main Street and Prime Avenue. The memorial is in the park and is located near the front steps of the Heckscher Art Museum.

The memorial service will mark the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attack on the World Trade Center.

Forty-three Huntington residents perished in the attack, and each will be remembered in a service at the town's 9-11 Memorial.

The service will include a musical performance by the Huntington Mens' Chorus, a rifle salute, a moment of silence, the placing of 43 roses at the base of the memorial and the reading of the names of the 43.

The service also will remember the contributions of all the first responders who assisted in the rescue and recovery.
