Firefighters Rescue Dog from Greenlawn House Fire
Cooper, a golden retriever mix, was not injured in fire Friday night, officials say.

Cooper, a Greenlawn pooch, is alive and well after a Friday night house fire, thanks to the quick response of the Greenlawn Fire Department, officials said.
Greenlawn Fire Department’s volunteers rescued the dog when responding to a house fire on Dohne Court that broke out at around 8:20 p.m., according to officials.
During a search of the house, Greenlawn Fire Lt. Angelo Santomauro and firefighter John Modzelewski located the pet dog in the basement and carried it to safety. Cooper, a golden retriever mix, was not injured and in good condition, officials said.

Greenlawn firefighters were assisted by Centerport, Huntington Manor, East Northport and Dix Hills fire departments as well as the Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Nearly 80 firefighters using ten trucks battled the blaze which was brought under control within 45 minutes, led by Third Assistant Chief Mike Bellis, officials said.
Firefighters contained the fire to the garage and attic above. The remainder of the home was saved due to an aggressive attack on the flames by firefighters, according to officials.
No word yet as to the cause of the fire, which Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Huntington Town Fire Marshal are investigating.
