Former Suffolk Lawmaker William "Doc" Spencer Headed To Jail Friday: Report
William "Doc" Spencer will serve 6-months as part of a year of interim probation under a plea deal, Newsday reported.
CENTERPORT, NY — A former Suffolk lawmaker went to jail on Friday after entering into a plea deal in connection with his arrest for trying to trade opioids for sex, Newsday reported.
William "Doc" Spencer, a 55-year-old Centerport, resident pleaded guilty to tampering with public records a felony, and patronizing a prostitute, a misdemeanor, in the county's criminal court, the outlet reported.
He will serve a six-month jail sentence as part of a year of interim probation under the plea deal, Newsday reported. He will have to finish 420 hours of community service while on probation, according to the outlet.

Spencer will also not be allowed to reapply for a license from the Drug Enforcement Administration to prescribe drugs, Newsday reported.
The Democrat, who served a decade on the Suffolk Legislature, decided not to seek re-election last year after his arrest in 2020 during a sting operation, according to the outlet.

Spencer tried to trade oxycodone pills for sexual favors with a woman who he believed to be a sex worker, prosecutors said.
