Huntington Adoptable Pet Of The Week: Cookie
Cookie, a 3-month-old kitten, was rescued after she was listed as "free" on Craigslist.

HUNTINGTON, NY — Cookie, a 3-month-old tortoiseshell kitten, is the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter's Huntington Pet of the Week.
"Torties" are known as the "divas of the cat world," and while they are recognized as being sassy, vocal felines, they also love their owners with fierce loyalty, said Debbi Larkin, president of the cat rescue.
"Their endless amount of energy can come across as being headstrong or sometimes just more sensitive than other cats," Larkin said.

Cookie was rescued by the shelter after she was listed as "free" on Craigslist, according to Larkin.
"Sometimes people are trying to do the right thing by rehoming an animal that they cannot keep (for whatever reason) but most times it is a red flag for rescues, and that is why we stepped in after receiving a phone call from someone who heard about her," Larkin said.

Cookie arrived at the shelter about a week ago.
"She was somewhat shy, but since she was moved four times the prior week, that is to be expected," Larkin said. "She was welcomed into the kitten room by Carter and immediately bonded with him. They were cuddling together within half an hour. She loves to empty the toy box and climb both condos. Most days you can see her sitting on the top perch looking out the window ... on bird and squirrel patrol! And when she is not looking for belly rubs or head scratches, she loves to snack! There isn’t a food or treat that she has turned her nose up at."

Cookie is fully vetted, tested negative for FELV and FIV, litter box trained and spayed.
"Cookie is starting to grow into that big personality (just remember she is only a baby) and she will keep you on your toes if given the chance," Larkin said. "She loves other cats and would love to find her forever home, once and for all."
If you are interested in meeting Cookie, you may call the shelter at 631-757-4517, email cats@laphuntington.org, visit the Facebook page or visit at the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter.
The rescue is at 3 Verleye Ave., East Northport, and visiting hours are Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
