HUNTINGTON, NY — Willow, a 4-month-old female kitten, is the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter's Huntington Pet of the Week. She is a white kitten with black markings on her head and shoulders with a black tail.

"Although the name means graceful and elegant, that is not necessarily the case with this little girl," Debbi Larkin, president of the shelter, said. "Willow trees are known for their 'willowy' structure and their ability to grow and prosper despite unfavorable conditions."

Willow was rescued by the Grateful Paw from someone who found her and her two siblings in a bad situation, Larkin said. Willows’ siblings were able to be adopted together but she was left behind.

Some think Willow is part Turkish Van based on her white and black colors, and she has quite the personality, Larkin said.

"She loves to talk and will let you know if she thinks you are not paying enough attention to her," she said. "She will check out every nook and cranny in the kitten room and empty the toy box numerous times per day. She tries to get her two roommates engaged with her antics but sometimes she just wears them out! She runs to the door to look out when someone is passing by, to let you know she is available for adoption. And if she thinks you have not noticed her, she will be practicing her acrobatics and swinging from the condos – just like the free swinging branches on a willow tree."

Willow is fully vetted, tested negative for FELV and FIV, litter box trained and spayed. If you are looking for a kitten who is very interactive and very loving she is the one, Larkin said.

"And just so that you know, she will be part of our St. Patricks’ Day Celebration on March 18. She is waiting for you!" Larkin said.
