Huntington Adoptable Pets Of The Week: 'Best Friends' Dae & Daisy Mae
The 10-week-old kittens were the runts of a litter found in an industrial complex in Farmingdale.

HUNTINGTON, NY — Dae and Daisy Mae, a pair of 10-week-old kittens, are the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter's Pets of the Week.
The two are the runts of a litter of five kittens found hiding in a metal box in a noisy industrial complex in Farmingdale, said Debbi Larkin, president of the shelter.
"These two were the runts of the litter so they were separated from the others and placed in a different foster home so they could receive the extra TLC and attention that they needed," Larkin said. "They did not need to be overwhelmed by the size of their other siblings especially since the mom was nowhere to be found."

The duo has blossomed in its foster home, proving the decision correct, Larkin said.
Dae is a male gray kitten with white on his chin, neck, belly, groin, and the tips of his toes.

"He has the most expressive eyes and will stare you down for a toy or food … and he will win!" Larkin said.
Daisy Mae is an all-gray female who always wears an expression of disbelief on her face.
"She probably looks like that because her brother is always getting into trouble, and she is the perfect little lady and she can’t believe what she is seeing," Larkin said. "Both kittens are very happy and playful with one another but I am sure they would love to interact with the other furbabies in the foster home."
They get the "zoomies" every night and run around like crazy chasing every toy in sight, according to Larkin. The minute someone picks them up to stop the "zoomies," they enter non-stop purring mode.
"They are best friends and they really don’t like to be separated," Larkin said. "Because of their rough start to life, and the fact that they are so attached to one another, we would like to see them adopted together."

Dae and Daisy Mae have been vetted, tested negative for FELV and FIV, have had two sets of vaccinations, and are litter box trained. Since they are not quite ready to be spayed and neutered — they are not 12 weeks until the first week in July — they are not available until after July 10.

The rescue is at 3 Verleye Ave., East Northport, and visiting hours are Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
"Not all heroes wear capes, so won’t you be THEIR HERO by adopting both so they can have a safe, loving home to live out their lives together?" Larkin said. "These kittens are like potato chips…you can’t just have one!"
