HUNTINGTON, NY — Penny and Henry are the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter's Huntington Pets of the Week. The two went to the rescue because of an eviction notice.

"The owners decided they could not or would not attempt to take them along to their new location," Debbi Larkin, president of the shelter, said.

Penny arrived with her 8-week-old-baby, Aiden, so the shelter placed Aiden in a foster home with three other kittens around the same age.

"How sad for these cats, but we will give them the care and attention they need, so they can truly find their forever homes where they are loved and cherished," Larkin said.

Henry is a ginger boy about 15 months old who loves to lounge in the sun and watch the world go by, according to Larkin.

"He is a little shy and timid but once you get to know him (just give him a scratch on his head or under his chin) he is all yours. He is very attached to his sibling, Penny, and although we would love to see them adopted together, if the right person comes along and is only interested in him that would be fine. Ginger cats are so popular they have their own holiday (Sept. 1) and some of the most famous cats – Orangey, the cat from "Breakfast at Tiffany’s," Puss in Boots from "Shrek" and the quintessential tiger cat, Garfield.

Penny is a gray tabby around 1 year old. Tabby cats are known for their distinct markings, including the stripes which are best for camouflage and the striking "M" on their foreheads like crowns.

"She can be shy and timid one time or she can be a crazy one, running around with the other kittens/cats in the room," Larkin said. "She will greet you at the door and welcome you
into the room, but make sure you are ready to play with her or give her your undivided attention."

Both Penny and Henry are fully vetted, tested negative for FELV/FIV, litter box trained and also
spayed and neutered.

If you are interested in meeting these two cats, you may call the shelter at 631-757-4517, emailcats@laphuntington.org, visit the Facebook page or visit at the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter.

The rescue is at 3 Verleye Ave., East Northport, and visiting hours are Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.

"And both Henry and Penny will be part of our St. Patricks’ Day Celebration on March 18!" Larkin said. "They will be waiting for you. One or both of them would make your perfect pot of gold under your rainbow!"
