Huntington Fire Department Bond Passes

Water, fire commissioners chosen around Huntington.

Voters in the Huntington Fire District approved a $4.5-million bond issue Tuesday that will allow the department to renovate and add training space.

The bond passed with about two-thirds of the 100 votes cast, the department said.

Ed Erickson, a fire commissioner who was re-election, said the department needs to upgrade its communications system and move a generator from the basement. "We have a shallow water table," he said, and the generator has to be moved to higher ground should the waters rise in a storm.

Other commissioners, all running unopposed, were chosen Tuesday:

Greenlawn Water District: James M. Logan, chairman of the board of commissioners.

Greenlawn Fire Department: Incumbent Larry Ancewicz

Halesite Fire Department: Wayne Jeno, replacing Robert Waring, who is stepping down.

Huntington Manor Fire Department: Incumbent Dane R. Martin.

South Huntington Water District: Incumbent Dominick Feeney.

In addition, the Halesite department last week elected the following officers:

Chief - Dan McConnell
1st Assistant Chief - Greg Colonna
2nd Assistant Chief - Jamie Magerle
Secretary - Jen Pavelka
Treasurer - F. Rogers Ketcham
Sergeant-at-Arms - Bob Wenk
Chairman of the Board of Trustees - Ex-Chief Dennis Magerle
