Huntington 'Goes Purple' For National Recovery Month
Purple flags are being installed in the town in recognition of those recovering from addiction to opioids and other drugs.

HUNTINGTON, NY — Huntington on Tuesday went purple in recognition of September being National Recovery Month, according to the town.
Supervisor Ed Smyth and Councilwoman Joan Cergol were joined at Huntington Town Hall by town officials and members of the Town’s Opioid & Addiction Task Force for the town's second annual “Huntington Goes Purple.”
This is the Town’s second year in a row “going purple” in observance of National Recovery Month. Purple flags are being installed at the following locations for September:

- Huntington Town Hall.
- Main Street (from Clinton Avenue/Green Street to Anderson Place).
- Larkfield Road (from Webster Place to 9th Avenue).
National Recovery Month was started in 1989 in order to “promote and support new evidence-based treatment and recovery practices, the nation’s strong and proud recovery community, and the dedication of service providers and communities who make recovery in all its forms possible," according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
