Huntington Grad Volunteers at Hofstra Debate

Rebecca Friedman, a 2010 graduate of Huntington High School, will be assisting Tuesday at the presidential debate at Hofstra University. She is a junior majoring in psychology with a minor in community health.

Huntington Patch caught up with her with some questions.

Question: How did you get interested in this debate?

Answer: Politics have always intrigued me so I try to stay as up to date on the latest news as I can. The second I heard that Hofstra was looking for student volunteers, I knew that I had get involved.

Q.: Are you registered to vote? Are you affiliated with a party?

A.: I am registered to vote. I am still not 100% certain about which candidate I will vote for, thus I will be watching this debate extra closely to make my decision.

Q.: What are your duties Tuesday?

A.: Some of my duties tomorrow will include working in the credentialing center (where members of the media come to pick-up their campus and Secret Service credentials) and working as an usher in debate hall. 

Q.: Are other students around you interested in this event?

A.: It seems as though a vast majority student population is interested in the debate. The entire campus is filled with journalists and various pre-debate events, all of which make it difficult not to get involved!

 Q.: When will you start working on this event?

A.: This past Saturday was my first day as a volunteer. I have worked every day since then.

 Q.: Will you actually witness the debate or be off to the side somewhere?

A.: I will not get to see the debate firsthand. However, I will be sure to go to one of the watch parties on campus.

 Q.: Is there anything else you'd like to say?

A.: These past few days have seemed surreal and it has been an experience that I will absolutely never forget. I don’t want it to end!
