Huntington Hospital Sponsors Local Relay for Life

Joining with the community to raise awareness and funds for cancer research, Huntington Hospital was the presenting sponsor for Huntington High School’s Relay for Life event recently.

Cancer survivors listened as Michael Buchholtz, MD, chairman of hematology and oncology at Huntington Hospital, and local breast cancer survivor Kerry Degnan shared their experiences and hopes for where cancer research and services will go in the future. Later, students and community members met on the high school field to listen to additional speakers, including Gerard Brogan, Jr., MD, executive director of Huntington Hospital, who detailed the hospital’s cancer services.

These presentations were followed by cancer survivors releasing balloons into the air and making a lap around the track, followed by their caregivers.

“A few years ago, the Huntington Hospital cancer services team decided to take our cancer survivors’ day out into the community by participating in Relay for Life and it’s been a great celebration of our survivors and caregivers as well as an opportunity to raise awareness and money for cancer research,” said Gail Probst, RN, director of cancer services at Huntington Hospital. “I would like to thank everyone who came out to support this wonderful cause and our local cancer survivors and caregivers.”
