Huntington Library Events: Gettysburg, 'Groundhog Day' Movie, More
From Civil War history to one-on-one Medicare counseling and assistance, here are February events coming to Huntington Library.

HUNTINGTON, NY — The Huntington Library is set to host several events in February, ranging from the Civil War to "Groundhog Day" the movie and more.

Event: The Gettysburg Experience: History & Highlights
Location: Huntington Public Library Main Auditorium
Date: Wednesday, Feb. 8
Time: 7 p.m.
Description: Join librarian Jim Ward for the history of this famous Civil War battle as well as tips for traveling to Gettysburg this year for its 160th anniversary. Learn about the best places to stay and eat as well as an overview of the battlefield and town. Registration required. Open to all.

Event: Evanston’s Living History Documentary Screening Screening
Location: Huntington Public Library Main Auditorium
Date: Monday, Feb. 13
Time: 3 p.m.
Description: Evanston's Living History is the story of a people paying a big price for rights and liberties that many of us take for granted; a community whose indomitable spirit influenced the conscience of a nation. Can’t make the screening but want to join the discussion? This film can also be viewed on the library’s streaming service, Kanopy, for free, with your library card.
Event: Evanston’s Living History Discussion with Craig Dudnick Discussion
Location: Zoom
Date: Wednesday, February 15
Time: 7 p.m.
Event: Join filmmaker Craig Dudnick for a virtual discussion of his documentary about Anthony Crawford, an African American man who was born into slavery, became a property owner through Emancipation and Reconstruction, and was ultimately lynched in 1916 with the rise of Jim Crow. Follow the lives of Crawford's descendants and their allies as they fight for the passage of United States Senate Resolution 39, which apologized for the failure of the Senate to enact anti-lynching legislation. The library said it encourages those attending to view the one-hour film prior to the discussion, either on Kanopy or at the scheduled screening. Patrons are encouraged to watch the film, but the presentation can be enjoyed whether or not the participants have seen it.

Event: Friday Afternoon Movie: "Groundhog Day"
Location: Huntington Public Library Main Auditorium
Date: Friday, Feb. 17
Time: 3 p.m.
Description: 1993, PG, 107 mins. A narcissistic, self-centered weatherman finds himself in a time loop on "Groundhog Day," and the day keeps repeating until he gets it right. Open to all. Registration not required.
Event: Rhonda Denet & the Silver Fox Trio Presents Mostly Motown, Volume 2
Location: Huntington Public Library Main Auditorium
Date: Saturday, Feb. 18
Time: 3 p.m.
Description: Rhonda’s original Mostly Motown concert was so well received that this volume was developed to celebrate classic rhythm & blues and soul songs from the 60s and 70s. Her performance features music by The Temptations and the Jackson 5 as well as a few highlights from the Stax, Philles and Chess labels, including Otis Redding, The Ronettes and Etta James. Registration required. Open to all.
Event: One-on-One Medicare Counseling and Assistance (HIICAP)
Location: Huntington Public Library Main Small Meeting Room
Date: Tuesday, Feb. 21
Time: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Description: Register for an appointment to speak one-on-one with a Suffolk County RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) volunteer from HIICAP (Health Insurance Information, Counseling, & Assistance Program) to answer questions and provide information specific to your own needs regarding Medicare health insurance and benefits, Medicare Savings Programs, Extra Help for prescription drugs, and EPIC (Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage).

Event: One Hour for the Earth with Carbon Crew

Description: Are you ready to reverse global warming? Learn why your carbon footprint matters and how to lower it with Carbon CREW Project's One Hour for the Earth interactive webinar. Presented by the Huntington area libraries. Registration required. Open to all.
Event: The Usual Suspects: True Crime Club Attention true crime lovers : Son of Sam
Location: Main Meeting Room
Date: Monday, Feb. 27
Time 7 p.m.
Description: Join the library for a new monthly True Crime Club. Each month will focus on a different true crime case with theories, suspects and coverage being discussed. Interviews and videos will also be used to analyze the details of the different case. David Berkowitz, also known as Son of Sam, killed six people in New York City from 1976 to 1977, claiming he received orders from a demon-possessed dog. But did he act alone? During this meeting, you'll learn about Maury Terry, armchair true crime investigator who made a possible breakthrough in the case. Registration required. Open to all.
