HUNTINGTON, NY — A Huntington man became the first person ever banned by the MTA when he was hit with a two-year embargo after he pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a Long Island Rail Road conductor, according to reports.

Michael Harewood, 47, forcibly touched a female conductor without her consent on Aug. 20, according to documents, Newsday reported. He was arrested on Sept. 6. He pleaded guilty to third-degree sexual abuse (a misdemeanor) and was sentenced to 60 days in jail, according to Newsday. Harewood will not be able to ride MTA transit until late 2024, according to Newsday.

An order of protection was issued to the victim, News 12 Long Island reported. The ban became state law two years ago when it was determined that criminals who harass transit workers can be barred for up to three years, according to News 12 LI.
