Huntington Manor FD Captain Who Ran Into Burning Home Recognized For 'Lifesaving Efforts'
Michael Colonna ran into a burning house without any gear or hose line when he heard three people were still inside the home.

HUNTINGTON, NY — The Huntington Manor Fire Department captain who ran into a burning home without protection to save three peoples lives was honored on Tuesday.
Captain Michael Colonna was presented with a proclamation by Councilman Salvatore Ferro.
Colonna, on July 4, was alerted to a fire on his block of Wyoming Drive in Huntington Station at 12:30 a.m. He arrived less than a minute after the fire department was notified.

Colonna radioed dispatch and then entered the house without the protection of any gear or hose line after he was made aware of three occupants still in the burning home. He escorted two residents out of the house and then carried a third person, who had collapsed from the smoke, safely down the stairs and out through the front door.
"Capt. Colonna’s resourceful, quick-thinking efforts were instrumental in saving three lives, averting what could have been a tragic loss to families, friends and community which was an act of heroism which deserves special recognition by the Town of Huntington," Ferro's office wrote in a statement.
