Huntington Manor Fire Department Remembers Peter Nelson on 9/11

The fire chief, who was also a firefighter with FDNY Rescue Company 4, was killed in the World Trade Center attack on Sept. 11, 2001.

The Huntington Manor Fire Department held a 9/11 Candlelight Memorial Service for Chief Peter Nelson.

Nelson, a firefighter with FDNY Rescue Company 4, was killed in the attack on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.

Firefighters, family, friends and residents of the community gathered for the nighttime service at Peter Nelson Park on Oakwood Road in Huntington Station.

First Assistant Chief Frank McQuade welcomed everyone, and Department Chaplain Deacon Ed Billia offered a prayer.

Candles were passed around and lit and Chief Fred Steenson, Jr., spoke about Sept. 11 and the loss of a good friend and dedicated firefighter.

Chaplain Tom Petriano offered prayer and the service concluded with the singing of Amazing Grace by Firefighter Jim Fawcett.
