HUNTINGTON, NY — Carillon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, a skilled nursing facility in Huntington, is celebrating its 50th anniversary, a spokesperson said.

Carillon is celebrating the milestone with a facility-wide barbecue on Oct. 4 to thank its 400+ employees for their hard work and dedication, not only to the facility’s residents, but to the facility and larger Huntington community.

"Carillon is more than just a place to our long-term residents, it’s their home," Geraldine Albers LNHA, administrator at Carillon, stated via press release. "Our care approach is patient-centered and involves an integrative program that addresses the complete healthcare needs of our patients, ensuring that their physical and psychosocial needs are always met. The health and happiness of our long-term resident community is our primary responsibility and privilege, and we’re honored to have had that opportunity for the past 50 years."

Carillon also provides services including short-term rehabilitation for physical, occupational and speech therapy, dedicated to returning people to their home environments.

Carillon was founded in 1969 by a father, Joseph Carillo Sr., and his three sons, Ferdinand, Joseph Jr. and Vincent, who had initial plans to turn the land into a shopping center. After learning that the land was only zoned for a church, a library or a nursing home, the family decided that building a skilled nursing facility was good business for the community and that there was a need for it at the time.

Since then, the facility has grown from a single floor to now being a 110,000 square-foot facility that houses 315 residents as well as 60 people for adult day care. Their on-site renal dialysis center also serves the needs of the community as well as their residents.

Carillon’s 400+ staff members are devoted to the residents and are constantly working to enhance their lives by helping them with all sorts of activities, such as arranging their outfits, buying supplies or bringing in animals as visitors, the release stated.

The facility also provides fun recreational activities for its residents, including car shows, a winter ball, religious services, music programs, educational programs, happy hour, the opportunity to take trips into the community, red hat ladies club, art club and art shows, french fry Friday and much more.

"We are so proud of what we have been able to build here over the last 50 years, but it would not have been possible without the love, dedication and hard work from our staff and our community," said Joseph Carillo, CEO of Carillon. "Our mission is and always has been to give the highest quality of care to people and let them feel like this is their home. We want our family of professionals to take care of your family, and I think we’ve achieved that over the last 50 years. We look forward to continuing to serve this community for many more years to come."

In addition to celebrating with a BBQ, staff will also receive a small gift as a token of appreciation from the facility’s owners.
