HUNTINGTON, NY — People will be able to get free rides on the Huntington Area Rapid Transit (HART) Bus system in the Town of Huntington for a week in September, the town announced.

A free fare week for the HART Bus fixed routes was approved by the Huntington Town Board at a meeting in August. The free week is scheduled for Sept. 19 through Sept. 24 and is a means to promote the HART Bus service, as well as sustainable transportation for International Car Free Day on Sept. 22.

“The Town of Huntington is a leader in sustainable and climate-smart initiatives and HART Bus’ Free Fare Week is another way to go green while simultaneously reducing commuting costs,” Supervisor Ed Smyth stated. “We expect this effort to go green and waive our fixed route bus fares will get more ‘cheeks in the seats’ and reduce the number of vehicles congesting our roads.”
