LUPINACCI ANNOUNCES LIFESAVING LEGISLATION

Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci (R,C,I-South Huntington) held an organ donor awareness press conference in Huntington.

Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci (R,C,I-South Huntington) was joined today by local legislators and members from the Long Island TRIO, Stony Brook Medicine and LiveOnNY at his district office to announce legislation that would generate more organ donor and transplant awareness in New York State.

“Although we passed a state budget that appropriates $250,000 to increase organ donor awareness, our efforts should not stop there,” said Lupinacci. “New York still lags in organ donor registration, with only 22 percent of adults registered compared to the national average of 48 percent.”

Lupinacci is currently drafting legislation that would require school districts to include organ donor and transplant information into health class curricula.

“As the successor to Assemblyman Jim Conte, a two-time kidney recipient, I hold this issue near and dear to my heart. There is no reason our state should not lead the nation in organ donor awareness, and I look forward to shepherding this bill through the Legislature so we can save more lives in New York State,” concluded Lupinacci.
