LUPINACCI APPLAUDS THE OPENING WORD LITERACY PROGRAM, CONGRATULATES NEW UNITED STATES CITIZENS

Assemblyman Chad A. Lupinacci (R, C, I – South Huntington) attended a graduation ceremony for The Opening Word literacy program.

Assemblyman Chad A. Lupinacci (R, C, I – South Huntington) recently attended a graduation ceremony for The Opening Word literacy program at St. Hugh of Lincoln Roman Catholic Church in Huntington Station. The Opening Word literacy program was founded to educate adult students, many of whom are immigrants to the United States, in English language arts, civic participation, and the traditional dynamics of American society. Students who complete this program are equipped with Basic English reading, writing and speaking skills, which serves as a key component to future personal empowerment and enhanced skills for membership in the workforce.
During the ceremony, Lupinacci awarded New York State Assembly Citations and pins to new American citizens in the Huntington community. Jacqueline Aparicio and Yohany Henriquez, two Latin American immigrants, have completed the requirements and been granted American citizenship. “I would like to congratulate Huntington’s newest citizens and welcome them to our diverse community in the 10th Assembly District. Jacqueline and Yohany, both graduates of The Opening Word literacy program, are an incredible example for those members of our immigrant community who desire to learn English and participate in our society,” said Lupinacci.
“It is apparent that each of the devoted volunteers play an instrumental role in creating opportunities for our immigrant population,” Lupinacci continued. “I am proud to call myself a parishioner at St. Hugh of Lincoln, and I am honored to have developed friendships with these men and women who make a positive impact on people’s lives every day,” Lupinacci concluded.
