'Job Well Done': Suffolk Emergency Services Dispatcher Helps To Deliver Beautiful Baby

CORAM, NY — It was a memory that will last forever, for one emergency services dispatcher in Suffolk County who helped to bring a beautiful baby into the world.

According to the Suffolk County Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services, on April 17 at about 1:15 a.m., ESD Timothy Murphy fielded a 911 call in regard to a woman giving birth in the Coram Fire District.

ESD Murphy promptly assisted the caller and the mother by providing instructions to keep the mother and the baby safe until first responders arrived at the scene, Suffolk County FRES said.

"ESD Murphy’s instructions helped result in the successful delivery of a beautiful baby that day," officials said. "In recognition of a job well done, Suffolk County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services Commissioner Rudy Sunderman presented ESD Murphy with a certificate and congratulated him in recognition of this work."

Sunderman said: "Thank you to all Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services Emergency Services Dispatchers, as well as all dispatchers, for your service and dedication to Suffolk County. These men and women serve our community every day with the utmost professionalism and care 365 days a year, 24/7."
