Lupinacci: Deeply Saddened by loss of "Careful and Fair" Judge Abdus-Salaam

“I am deeply saddened by the devastating loss of Sheila Abdus-Salaam. Judge Abdus-Salaam’s nomination to New York State’s highest court was the epitome of the American Dream. A pioneer in her field from humble beginnings, Judge Abdus-Salaam was the first African American, Muslim woman to sit on the state’s highest court. She served on the bench since 2013 and will be remembered as a careful and fair jurist, whose impact will never be forgotten. The Court of Appeals bench—and our judicial system at-large—has suffered a tremendous loss. On behalf of the 10th Assembly District, my thoughts and prayers are with the Abudus-Salaam family during this very difficult time.
