Lupinacci Finds Proposed Budget Unaccepatble

Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci (R,C,I-South Huntington) explains his take on the Assembly Majority one-house budget resolution.

Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci (R,C,I-South Huntington) was displeased with the Assembly Majority one-house budget resolution that was brought to the Floor of the Assembly last week, noting that many important issues were severely lacking in the proposal.

“It’s hard to believe the Assembly Majority thinks they can bring a one-house budget proposal without mentioning any serious ethics reform. They are doing their constituents and New York State a huge disservice by failing to bring real change to a flawed legislature,” said Lupinacci.

The Assembly Majority’s one-house budget proposal treads lightly on ethics reform; only making minor changes to campaign finance rules. The Majority completely rejected the ethics reform proposed by the governor, and recently voted against a resolution proposed by the Assembly Minority that would bring more openness and transparency to the Assembly.

Lupinacci, who teaches at SUNY Farmingdale, Hofstra University and Saint Joseph’s College, also lamented that student safety on college campuses was not included in the proposal. “I was also disappointed the one-house budget did not include a uniform policy on sexual assault. The governor’s proposal would extend the SUNY sexual assault policy to private schools and universities throughout New York State. Our priority should be student safety, and implementing the sexual assault policy to private schools would be in the best interest of thousands of students across New York State,” he said.

“The Assembly’s one-house budget proposal fails to bring the reform New Yorkers’ are calling for, and once again proves the Assembly Majority is not working for the best interests of New York State,” concluded Lupinacci.
