LUPINACCI HONORS VETERANS AT "SAIL AHEAD"

Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci (R,C,I-South Huntington) joined members of the Huntington community to celebrate Sail Ahead.

Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci (R,C,I-South Huntington) recently joined members of the Huntington community to celebrate Sail Ahead, a program which uses sailing to honor our veterans’ population throughout Long Island. This first annual event was held at the Centerport Yacht Club, hosting over 80 veterans, their families and devoted volunteers.
Astonishingly, the event was coordinated by two local South Huntington teenagers, Sean and Killian Duclay, who were inspired to use sailing as a healing method for veterans with post-traumatic stress. Also, on Thursday evening, Sean Duclay and his friend, Paul Naclerio, sailed a yacht from Mystic, Connecticut to Centerport Yacht Club, arriving just in time for the Saturday morning event.
“Today, we gather to honor our veterans in a special way: through shared experiences and enjoyable memories,” Lupinacci began. “On Long Island, we have a distinctly nautical culture and a thriving population of veterans. I am proud to represent parts of Suffolk County, which is home to the largest population of veterans in the State of New York,” continued Lupinacci.
“To be here, at the inaugural Sail Ahead event, is to bear witness to the nautical culture of Long Island paying homage to our veterans in a unique and unconventional way,” said Lupinacci. “I would like to commend and thank the Centerport Yacht Club, the dedicated volunteers and — most of all — our veterans for making this day possible. Thank you all for your service to our nation,” concluded Lupinacci.
