Lupinacci Hopeful On New Regents

The following is a statement from Assemblyman Chad A. Lupinacci (R,C,I – South Huntington) -

Today was an important day for the future of education in New York State. Concerns with the implementation of Common Core have left some New Yorkers weary about the direction of education in our state. With the vacancies left in the First and Fifth judicial district as well as an at-large seat, the opportunity to reform and evolve the current Board of Regents presented itself.

I congratulate the newly-elected members and am hopeful they will bring innovation and continued success to our education system. While the resumes of these members are commendable, I am disappointed that our candidate was not selected. The individual my colleagues and I nominated would have brought a new perspective to the education system, one that would have represented the views of Long Island suburbs.

With this issue especially, it is important we remember who we are working for – kids living across the entire state. In the future, changes must be made so that voices from all over the state and both sides of the aisle may be heard. We can’t let our children’s futures suffer due to partisan politics. However, I will remain optimistic that our newly-elected Board of Regents members have our children’s best interests in mind.
