Lupinacci: LIRR Train Service ‘Depleting,’ ‘Inconsistent,’ Requests Reimbursement For Commuters

Assemblyman Chad A. Lupinacci penned two letters to Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Patrick A. Nowakowski, President of the MTA Long Island Rail Road

Assemblyman Chad A. Lupinacci (R,C,I-South Huntington) penned two letters to Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Patrick A. Nowakowski, President of the MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), in regards to the declining quality of the LIRR and the need for reimbursement for commuters disadvantaged by the trains poor and often nonexistent service. Citing the LIRR as the sole means of travel for thousands of Long Island residents commuting each day, Lupinacci requested the state of New York make the repairs of the LIRR as soon as possible and provide reimbursement to those forced to find alternative forms of transportation due to the LIRR.

“The abysmal state of the Long Island Rail Road cannot go ignored any longer, and I am calling upon the Governor and the president of the LIRR to make the necessary repairs before commuters suffer any longer,” said Lupinacci. “Commuters pay hundreds to thousands of dollars each year to commute and to provide them with delayed, cancelled or broken trains is simply unacceptable. The condition of the LIRR has also forced commuters to miss work entirely or utilize expensive, alternative forms of transportation.

“I am calling upon Gov. Cuomo and Mr. Nowakowski to take on the immense problems facing the LIRR so commuters can have a reliable, affordable and safe form of transportation every day. This begins with fixing the delays, and broken infrastructure, along with providing reimbursement to the thousands of residents forced to pay out of pocket for alternative forms of transportation. We can and should do more for those commuting every day, and I’m confident we can find an equitable solution that works for our residents and the state as a whole.”
