Lupinacci (R,C,I,Ref-South Huntington) was recognized by the EPL/Environmental Advocates as one of three Republican Assemblymen who broke from their party to vote Yes on environmentally-conscious legislation. Lupinacci, along with Assemblymen Raia and Palumbo, received scores of 87 out of 100 on the organization’s Environmental Scorecard. “I am tremendously proud to be recognized as part of such a forward- thinking and environmentally-conscious group of individuals,” said Lupinacci. “The science is proven and the reality is that climate change is real and it’s resulting in harmful effects here and around the globe. In New York State alone we’ve witnessed rising sea levels, shortened or delayed seasonal changes and even warmer temperatures in typically colder months. Along the U.S.’s southern coast, we’ve seen an uptick in the number and frequency of hurricanes that many scientists agree have resulted from warming ocean temperatures due to climate change.

“While other states and countries share some of the blame, it is crucial we do our part as legislators to regulate and decrease our emissions and take the necessary steps to prevent and resolve any more damage to our environment,” Lupinacci said. “I stand with my colleagues who’ve taken action against this immediate and impending threat and I look forward to working with our communities to improve upon the incredible work we’ve already accomplished.”

The EPL/Environmental Advocates took particular notice of Lupinacci’s ‘Yes’ vote on the Climate and Community Protection Act (Bill Summary #1). This legislation recognizes the existence of climate change and its particularly harmful impact on New York State. According to the report, the bill will make law a number of measures that will move the state’s economy away from fossil fuels and ‘ensure equity for frontline communities and workers.’

Assemblyman Lupinacci represents the 10th District, which consists of parts of Suffolk County. For more information, please visit Assemblyman Lupinacci’s Official Website.
