Man Crashes Car Into Huntington Home, Charged With DWI: Police
Matias Cruz of Greenlawn was also charged with reckless endangerment following the early-morning crash on Green Street.
HUNTINGTON, NY — A Suffolk County man is facing multiple charges after police said he crashed his car into a house before fleeing the scene.
Matias Cruz, 33, of Greenlawn, was charged with driving while intoxicated, criminal mischief and reckless endangerment following the crash that happened in Huntington shortly after midnight Saturday.
According to Suffolk County police, Cruz was driving a 2013 Toyota Tundra when he crashed into a house in the 80 block of Green Street. Following the crash, Cruz fled the scene and was later apprehended, police said.

A report by News 12 Long Island said a woman was inside the home and on the second floor at the time of the crash. First responders had to rescue her from the house, the report said.
In an update provided by police Saturday afternoon, authorities said Cruz was involved in two crashes prior to striking the house.

Police said Cruz struck a Jeep Liberty on West 19th Street in Huntington Station around 12:05 a.m. A few minutes later, police said he also struck a Toyota sedan at Oakwood Road and West 11th Street in Huntington. Cruz did not stop at either crash and continued driving until his vehicle crashed into the house, police said.
Cruz was taken to Huntington Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The woman inside the home was uninjured, News 12 reported.
Cruz was scheduled to appear in Suffolk County District Court on Saturday.
