Man Desecrated Tombstone, Fought Suffolk Cops In Huntington: Police

HUNTINGTON, NY — A man was arrested after police said he desecrated a tombstone, threw rocks at passing vehicles and fought with officers Tuesday evening in Huntington.

Michael Laraque, 31, who police said is undomiciled, was standing at the edge of Huntington Rural Cemetery, at 555 New York Ave., and throwing rocks into the street at about 6:30 p.m., Suffolk County police said.

The rocks damaged three passing vehicles and broke a window at Laura’s Dance Studio, at 586 New York Ave., police said.

When officers arrived, Laraque ran into the cemetery, knocked over and damaged a tombstone, police said. He then fought with two responding officers before being taken into custody, police said.

Second Squad detectives charged Laraque with first-degree cemetery desecration, second-degree menacing, five counts of third-degree criminal mischief and two counts of second-degree assault.

Laraque was taken to Huntington Hospital for evaluation and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date, police said.
