Man Seriously Injured In Wrong-Way Crash In Suffolk

The man was driving when he crossed over into oncoming traffic, left the roadway and struck a tree, police say.

HUNTINGTON, NY — A man was seriously injured following a wrong-way crash in Huntington on Saturday morning, Suffolk police said.

A 67-year-old East Northport man was driving a 1996 Dodge pickup truck northbound on Park Avenue when he crossed over the southbound lane, drove off the road and struck a tree at 10:07 a.m. police said.

The man was airlifted to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries after being treated by the Huntington Community First Aid Squad.

Two Huntington Manor Fire Department rescue trucks and an engine responded, and firefighters used heavy rescue extrication "Jaws of Life" tools to free the driver, public information officer Steve Silverman said. Chief Chuck Brady and Assistant Chiefs Jim Glidden and Brian Christen led the rescue.

The pickup truck was impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
