Here are the top four stories today in Huntington:

  1. Senior at Northport High School nominated for a Grammy Award. Kathy Ruiter is a bassist in the New York Youth Symphony and was a member of the group which recorded the album “Works by Florence Price, Jessie Montgomery, Valerie Coleman”. The album is nominated for Best Orchestral Performance at the 2023 Grammy awards. “I’m honestly just excited that we’re even nominated," she said. "We’re against John Williams and the Berlin Philharmonic, which is insane, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic with Dudamel. Even just being nominated and seen alongside these huge names is something I never thought I would experience.” (Patch)
  2. Commack teen creates the Wichards Winter Wonderland to raise money for St. Jude Children's Hospital research. Joseph Barragato, a student at LIU Post, told News 12 he has been raising money for two years and has donated $2,000 to St. Jude's so far. (Patch)
  3. Town Of Oyster Bay's Holiday on Ice show to return Dec. 17. The show is at the town's ice-skating rink on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 4:30 p.m. Students from the town's Ice-Skating Program will perform a holiday-themed skating exhibition and the evening includes an exhibition hockey game between the Elves and the Reindeer. 4. Police looking for man who stole $1,500 chain from Whitman Jewelry & Coins. The man entered Melville store on Nov 4 and requested to see several chains and ran off with a Figaro gold chain. Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-221-TIPS. (Patch)
