- Northport Superintendent announces retirement. Robert Bantz announced his retirement on Thursday and the school district announced it will be effective Dec. 31. Bantz served as superintendent for eight years and in a letter to the Northport school community the board said, “the district has made tremendous strides during Mr. Banzer’s tenure including the passage of a $40 million bond to enhance district facilities, the implementation of an integrated co-teaching model to support all students’ learning needs and improvement of our district’s security measures. - Overnight road closures are coming to the Town of Huntington. The Northern State Parkway closures will last approximately two weeks for a draining rehabilitation project. The eastbound lanes will be closed between exit 40 (State Route 110) and exit 41 (Wolf Hill Road) in starting Monday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists are urged to plan ahead and drive with caution in work zones. - Police have ID’d a pedestrian killed on Long Island Expressway in Melville. Ronald Yher, 72,was killed Sunday when he pulled over to the shoulder near Exit 50 and left his vehicle. Yher walked to the middle of the road and was hit by two vehicles and pronounced dead at the scene. (Huntington Patch)
