  1. Oheka Castle proposes 95 condominium units due to owner's financial hardship. Oheka Castle was represented by lawyer Michael McCarthy at the Feb. 7 Town Board meeting. The historic mansion and hotel are a staple in the town of Huntington, but many residents don't believe there should be housing on the grounds. "Are they going to be 95 condos that are affordable to all or are they going to be [$1 million] each and only cater to the wealthy community?" Harmony Tanya of Huntington said. "At what point does a developer sit down and say, 'hey we need to add more complexes for the everyday middle-class family?' There are zero apartments on Long Island that cater to just your average family. You either have to be poor and qualify for rent control or rich to shell out 4K a month to rent. Can’t wait to see the cost of these unrealistic to society condos." Read more in the link about resident's opinions on the proposal. (Huntington Patch)
  2. Northport High School senior earns three recognitions from the 100th Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Ella Piscatello earned honorable mentions in the personal essay and memoir category, along with the dramatic script category. The highlight for Piscatello was winning the Gold Key award for her critical essay, "Every Book is for Someone.” (Patch)
  3. A Syosset High School teacher wins his first game on Jeopardy. Daniel Wohl's episode aired Wednesday night and he took down the four-day champion Matthew Marcus in the "Double-Jeopardy" round. The social studies teacher was voted 'Most Likely to Win Jeopardy' by Syosset students before news of him appearing broke. (News 12 Bronx)
