One Injured in Huntington Crash

Firefighters, returning from a nearby building fire, used 'Jaws of Life' tools to remove a door from the car; victim brought to hospital.

A crash in Huntington Village on Saturday at about 5:30 p.m. left one person injured, authorities said.

The driver of a Mini Cooper, which had collided with a truck on Main Street and Wall Street, was extricated from the car and transported to Huntington Hospital, according to officials.

Firefighters returning from a building fire on Prospect Street came across the accident. An engine from the Halesite Fire Department was first on the scene, and crews immediately began patient care, officials said.

The Huntington Fire Department rescue truck arrived with an engine from the Cold Spring Harbor Fire Department, and their crews worked together to extricate the driver.

Firefighters used the heavy rescue “Jaws of Life” tools to remove a door from the car. An ambulance from the Huntington Community First Aid Squad transported the patient to the hospital.

About 20 firefighters were at the scene under the command of Huntington Fire Chief Robert Berry and Third Assistant Chief Brian Keane.
