Otto Kahn Award Winners In Town Of Huntington Announced

Eight students will receive $3,000 each and get to perform or have their work shown at this year's Oheka Castla gala, Friends of OHEKA says.

HUNTINGTON, NY — The eight winners of the Otto Kahn Award were announced by Friends of OHEKA.

The students, all from the Town of Huntington, were earmarked $3,000 each. They will also perform or have their work shown at this year's Oheka Castle gala, scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. June 14, rain or shine.

The following students are pursuing their love of the arts as they begin their college education this fall:

  • Victoria Befumo, Huntington High School
  • Fern Brazeau, Walt Whitman High School
  • Anabelle Bryant, Cold Spring Harbor High School
  • Katerina Damiano, Huntington High School
  • Christopher Hummel, Harborfields High School
  • Jacob Leshnower, Half Hollow Hills East High School
  • Andrew Noonan, Walt Whitman High School
  • Mark Shapiro, Half Hollow Hills East High School

Eligible seniors must be going to college in the fall and majoring in the performing arts, visual arts or music. Applications were available at these high schools: Cold Spring Harbor, Half Hollow Hills East, Half Hollow Hills West, Harborfields, Huntington, John Glenn, Northport and Walt Whitman.

Eugene Cook, a councilman in the Town of Huntington, is this year's Humanitarian Honoree, Friends of OHEKA announced.

Tickets to the Great Gatsby-style summer classic are available online.

The $125 ticket includes hors d’Oeuvres, buffet dinner, wine, dessert and entertainment. The event will also have raffle baskets and traditional Gatsby-style attire is always welcome.

To date, Friends of OHEKA has raised $200,000 for high school seniors who are pursuing an education in the arts.

"Friends of OHEKA, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection, preservation and public awareness of OHEKA castle, a monument to a bygone era and a testament to Huntington’s commitment to historic preservation," the organization wrote.
