HUNTINGTON, NY — Ozzy, Opie and Ollie are the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter's Huntington Pets of the Week.

The triplets, barely over a month old, were found living under someone's backyard deck with their feral mother, said Debbi Larkin, president of the shelter.

The three boys were caught by one of the shelter's local trappers. The trapper brought the kittens to the shelter.

"They were being fed at the house where they were found and they were between 4-5 weeks and thankfully eating on their own besides nursing from mom," Larkin said.

The mom was trapped, spayed and released while the babies went to the shelter.

Ozzy, Opie and Ollie are all tabbies, but now that they are growing, the shelter is able to tell the
difference between them.

"When they first arrived they all looked alike and it was a guessing game for the foster mom as to who was who!" the shelter wrote. "We like to make it lively for our foster homes!"

Tabby cats are known for having big personalities and can have various traits such as being social, they love their humans and love to be the center of attention, according to Larkin. They are
energetic and affectionate at the same time and they can be vocal and express all of their
feelings.

"All of these traits apply to these babies, but only if Ozzy is the leader, but give the other two kittens time to adjust and they will start to shine," Larkin said.

Ozzy, the very dark tabby, is "extremely outgoing" and the leader of the pack, Larkin said. He gets
his brothers going with running up and down the cat trees and playing with the springs and the foil balls.

Opie the gray tabby and Ollie the brown tabby, who, if they are running fast enough, look exactly alike, Larkin said.

"Until you pick them up and look at their face you don’t know who you are holding. Both Opie and Ollie are not as rambunctious as Ozzy but will definitely play follow the leader."

They all are very vocal when they want something — mostly food — and will let you know
if they don’t think you are preparing their meals in a timely manner. They love to lay on their foster parents, but they need to see Ozzy doing it first, Larkin said.

All three babies have tested negative for FELV and FIV, tested negative for parasites, have been
wormed and received their first set of vaccines. They will receive the next set in three weeks.
Approximately three weeks after that, they will receive the last set and be neutered.

They will be available at the rescue's Kitten Adoption Event on Thursday, Aug. 29 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the shelter.

The rescue is at 3 Verleye Ave., East Northport, and visiting hours are Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.

The shelter is also open from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday nights only for those who cannot make it during the daytime hours.

"These babies deserve a loving home and we would love to see that happen," Larkin said. "Although we are a 'free roaming' shelter, life in a 'free roaming house' with lots of family and love is always better. And the sooner we can get these boys their forever home the more we can help others like them. Won’t you be a part of that?"
