Pedestrian Fatally Hit By 2 Vehicles In Suffolk: Police

The man pulled to the side of the road and walked into the center of the highway before he was hit, police say.

MELVILLE, NY — A pickup truck driver got out of his vehicle on the Long Island Expressway on Sunday night in Melville and was fatally struck by two vehicles, Suffolk police said.

A 2018 Ford F150 was heading west on the Long Island Expressway when the driver pulled to the side of the road and left the truck, police said. He walked into the middle lane of the highway near exit 50 and was struck by a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu driven by a 40-year-old Franklin Square man at 7:05 p.m., police said. The man was then hit by a second westbound car, a 2007 Hummer driven by a 49-year-old Brentwood man, police said.

The man died at the scene. Police are withholding his identification until his family can be properly notified.

Neither driver was hurt in the crash, police said. The Ford F150, Chevrolet Malibu, and Hummer were all impounded for safety checks.
