Pickup Truck Slams Into Melville DICK’S After Driver Suffers Medical Episode: Police
A 62-year-old man was hospitalized after his pickup truck struck the vestibule of a Walt Whitman Road store, police say.
MELVILLE, NY — A driver suffered a medical event and crashed into a storefront in Melville on Tuesday afternoon, Suffolk County police said.
The incident happened at around 4:40 p.m. at DICK’S Sporting Goods, located at 870 Walt Whitman Road.
A 62-year-old man was attempting to put his 2023 Hyundai pickup truck in reverse when he experienced a medical episode, causing the vehicle to strike the store’s vestibule, according to police.

The driver was transported to a local hospital. He was conscious and alert at the scene and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The store has been closed pending an investigation by the Town of Huntington Building and Housing Department.
