Public Session For Melville 'Redevelopment' Set

The session will focus on the proposed Melville Employment Center.

MELVILLE, NY — A public listening session on the "redevelopment" of Melville is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at RXR Executive Park, at 68 S. Service Road, Melville, according to the Town of Huntington Supervisor Ed Smyth.

The meeting will include discussion of the Melville Employment Center, a proposal that goes back to former Town of Huntington supervisor Frank Petrone's administration, Huntington Now reported.

The proposal involves land use, zoning, industrial and residential uses, and more, according to the 2016 draft plan.

The Melville Employment Center study was guided by two principles:

  • Keep the MEC competitive to attract and keep jobs and enhance the Town of Huntington’s tax base.
  • 2) Preserve quality-of-life for residents and employees in and around the MEC.

Attendees will be able to talk openly and share opinions on the future development of Route 110 in Melville, according to the town.

Route 110 is 16 miles long and runs north-south through the Melville Employment Center, providing connections to Huntington Village, Walt Whitman Shops and Farmingdale Village.

The Melville Employment Center study area is bound to Pinelawn Road to the East, Walt Whitman Road to the west and the Huntington Town boundary to the south. The study area also includes parcels accessed from Spagnoli Road as well as the strip of commercial areas along Route 110 south of Old Country Road.
