Sneakers, 'Sweetest Little Guy,' Is Huntington Pet Of The Week
Sneakers found himself in two different homes before being returned to the shelter. Would you like to meet him?

HUNTINGTON, NY — Sneakers, a gray and white male kitten approximately 3 months old, is the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter's Huntington Pet of the Week.
Sneakers' feet look like he is wearing white Keds or Vans, said Debbi Larkin, president of the shelter.
Sneakers was rescued by a good Samaritan who gave the rescue two other kittens — Hercules and Sabrina — when the shelter first reopened.

"All three of these kittens were taken from unfortunate situations but two of them so far have found their forever homes," Larkin said.
Sneakers was picked up by someone who wanted to give their daughter a kitten.

"That didn’t last very long though because the daughter grew tired of this little guy, mainly because he wasn’t the 'right color,'" Larkin said. "So sad. The parents then passed Sneakers off to a friend who decided they wanted a kitten and much to the dismay of the new owner, Sneakers was scratching the brand new furniture. Well, if you don’t cut his nails and show him how to use a scratching post, then there might be issues."
The good Samaritan picked up Sneakers once again, and the shelter took him in.
So, he was given the boot and rescued by our good Samaritan who
"He is the sweetest little guy, loves his crinkle ball and spring toy and loves to play," Larkin said. "He looks at you with those gorgeous gold eyes and he can make you melt, especially when he starts purring."
Sneakers is currently confined to a large crate in one of the shelter's adult rooms because the rescue needs to ensure he is OK before he is placed in a room with the other kittens. He will be tested for FELV and FIV, wormed, receive his vaccinations and will be neutered on Wednesday by the shelter's in-house veterinarian. He is already litter box-trained.
"As long as there are no problems, and we do not foresee any because he looks like he is in
excellent health, he will be placed in the kitten room on Thursday and ready for adoption," Larkin said.

If you are interested in meeting Sneakers, you may call the shelter at 631-757-4517, email cats@laphuntington.org, visit the Facebook page or visit at the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter.
The rescue is at 3 Verleye Ave., East Northport, and visiting hours are Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
People can stop by on Thursday to meet him.
Starting this week, the shelter will be open on Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. by appointment only. These additional hours are for those who want to visit but are working and cannot make it during the daytime hours or on the weekend.
"Won’t you please let Sneakers run up to you to steal your heart and give him the permanent home he so richly deserves?" Larkin said. "He has been relocated too many times in his short life and only YOU can change that for him."
