Special Needs Students Create Huntington Community Mural

More than 500 people participated across several organizations. The Spirit of Summer Art Festival Fundraiser is scheduled for Sunday.

HUNTINGTON STATION, NY — A mural painted by more than 500 special needs students will be unveiled Sunday in Huntington Station, The Spirit of Huntington announced.

Participants from several organizations worked on the community art installation, which is over 32 feet by 20 feet.

"This awe-inspiring masterpiece will be unveiled with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the highly anticipated Spirit of Summer Art Festival Fundraiser," The Spirit of Huntington wrote.

The festival is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at 2 Melville Road N., Huntington Station. The mural ribbon cutting is slated for 12:30 p.m.

Organizations that participated in the mural include ACLD, AHRC Suffolk, Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau, FREE - Family Residences and Essential Enterprises, Life’s WORC, RISE Life Services, South Huntington School District, Winters Center for Autism, SYJCC-Butler Center, and the Mid-Island YJCC-Adler Center for Special Needs.

"The Spirit of Summer Art Festival will be a remarkable gathering, where art enthusiasts, local businesses, and community patrons come together to foster creativity and make a meaningful impact on society," The Spirit of Huntington wrote.

The group aims to raise funds to support inclusion and diversity in the arts, which focus on empowering artists, providing educational resources, and supporting community programs.

"Let us come together, celebrate and witness the extraordinary artistry that emerges when hundreds of talented individuals unite in the spirit of collaboration."

Admission to the festival is free, and all proceeds will be allocated directly to support the Spirit of Huntington Art Center’s programs and initiatives.
