Special Needs & Veterans Center To Open In Huntington Station

HUNTINGTON STATION, NY — A center dedicated to helping those with autism and special needs, as well as veterans, is set to be built at the site of the old South Huntington Public Library, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone announced Friday.

The center will act as a program and service hub that will offer peer support, education, arts, music, mental health, and job training.

Suffolk County is home to the largest veterans' population in New York state. The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention reports that one in six children were diagnosed with a developmental disability based on data from people ages 3 through 17.

Bellone was joined by RISE Life Services Executive Director Charles Evdos, Suffolk County veterans officials, and state and local officials for the announcement.
