Stimson MS Students To Be Published In Young Writers Contest: South Huntington
Students were asked to write a mini-saga following the genres of crime and mystery. Congratulations to those whose work will be published!
SOUTH HUNTINGTON, NY — Seventh and eighth-graders of Stimson Middle School are set to have their writing published in the Young Writers Contest collection, the South Huntington School District announced.
Mrs. Shikarides, a literacy and English teacher at Stimson Middle School, was proud to see her students recognized for their craft.
Young Writers is a family-run business established in 1991. Their ethos emphasizes the
importance of young writers to read and write with a focus on poetry and creative writing. Young Writers believe published work “boosts confidence, nurtures creative talent and showcases creativity.”

The Young Writers Contest theme this year was “Unsolved,” where students were asked to write
a mini-saga following the genres of crime and mystery.
The students’ pieces will be published into the collection, and they will be able to revise their
work prior to publication after receiving feedback.

There were six eighth-grade winners from Mrs. Shikarides third-period Literacy Support class,
including Meghan Roth, Natalia Morales, Jason Diaz, Josh Evans, Kaitlynn Wilson, and Katie
Lazo.
There were also 14 seventh-grade winners from her second-period English Honors Research class, including Alex Gizzi, Maeve O’Connor, Sydney Henkel, Timmy Teubig, Xavier Keth, Miles Berman, Priscilla Kenny, Ryan Tabibzada, Jacobo Ramirez, Andie DeVinney, Christopher Ortega, Daniel Cotsalas, Ella Brenner, and Hayli Wuss.
"Congratulations to these students on their outstanding achievement!" the South Huntington School District wrote in a statement.
