'Super Sweet' Lexi: Huntington Adoptable Pet Of The Week
Lexi, a 3-month-old female black cat, has plenty of energy and loves to sit on laps, snuggle, and purr.

HUNTINGTON, NY — Lexi, a 3-month-old female kitten, is the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter's Huntington Pet of the Week.
Lexi was found in a residential area of Deer Park, said Debbi Larkin, president of the shelter. There was an un-spayed female cat in the neighborhood that someone was feeding and they were trying to trap her, but in the process, they figured out that she must have had one or more kittens, Larkin said.
Nobody ever saw any of the kittens until one day after trapping the mom, they heard constant crying from a nearby window well. One of the neighbors ran to get a ladder to climb down to where Lexi was to rescue her.

"She was so terrified, she hung on for dear life while they brought her up but as soon as they placed her in a carrier, she stopped screaming and started purring," Larkin said. "The neighbors searched and searched the area but found no other siblings, so they are not sure how Lexi fell in the window well since the mother was not near."
Lexi was "super sweet" from the get go even though it did not appear she had interacted with a human before, according to Larkin. She was kept for a few days at one of her rescuer's homes until she could be placed with the shelter. All she wanted to do was sit on a lap, snuggle and purr. When she was allowed out of her crate, she made herself at home on the couch with the other cats and a dog.

Lexi arrived at the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter last week and was immediately checked out by its in- house vet.
"Although she is on the skinny side, probably because she is always on the move, she is in
perfect health," Larkin said. "She adores the other cats and kittens in the room and is always first in line when the food plates arrive. I guess she hasn’t quite figured it out that she will have regular meals and doesn’t have to worry where her next one is coming from!"
Lexi is all black with beautiful yellow eyes that have that look of mischief in them, Larkin said. She is fully vetted, litter box trained — although she likes to move the litter boxes around the
room to a different location — and spayed. She is just a little bit over 3 pounds.
"But don’t let her tiny appearance fool you…she has plenty of energy and can give you a run for your money with her antics."
If you are interested in meeting Lexi, you may call the shelter at 631-757-4517, email cats@laphuntington.org, visit the Facebook page or visit at the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter.
The rescue is at 3 Verleye Ave., East Northport, and visiting hours are Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
"Won’t you give this tiny free spirit her forever home?" Larkin said. "One that involves living inside, possibly with another companion and one that doesn’t involve window wells and ladders?"
