The Carll House
An artistic and photographic look into a historic home in Huntington.
The Carll House may not seem like a piece of history, but it is. It sits on the corner of Wall Street and Central Street in a busy little section of town. It has been used commercially for a number of years but was once a single residence for the Carll family.
Built in 1820, the home's main structure has a side entrance plan, gable roof and shed-roofed front porch which was added in 1980. It features a balustrade and lattice foundation. There are still a couple two-over-two double hung sash windows as well. Surrounding the front of the home is a white cement gate opening up a beautiful brick path to the side entrance.
There were also additions made during the 1890s. The one-story rear wing and bay window helped to modernize the home. The original chimney was removed and a new brick chimney was also added.

It was said the two-story wing addition was constructed from another location and brought to the Carll property in 1840. The design clearly defines settlement period architecture with its shingle sheathing, three-bay side entrance plan and its lack of ornamental details. It also has a pitched gable roof to match the rest of the home.
Even though the Carll house has been altered due to commercial use, it still remains a historic piece of Huntington, one of the few surviving structures located in the town's business district. Having eight or more owners, the home has been a place where memories were made and families were created.
